Did President Bush Lie?

I’m such a sucker for a good debate.  And the soon-to-be-former President Bush (only 338 days to go) happens to be one of those topics I could talk about all day long!

My friend Angela over at Domestic Divapalooza and I realized our political differences (the hard way) during last election and because of those differences, we’ve learned to engage each other in healthy debates that help us see politics from a different perspective besides our own.

Earlier today she wrote about her thoughts on President Bush and whether or not he lied about Iraq and weapon’s of mass destruction.  She believes he didn’t lie because he makes decisions based on the information presented to him by varied experts.

My position is he’s the President.  And when you’re the President, you’d better make sure you have a staff that isn’t going to lie about things so important.

If a member of his staff lies and he makes a bad decision based on that lie - then he’s just as responsible if not more then the person who lied to begin with.

You’d think, when it comes to something as important as invading a country, deploying thousands of U.S. Military, requesting a multi-billion dollar budget that will be carried on the backs of the taxpayers and cost many mothers and fathers, their sons and daughters that he’d have done a little more checking to make sure such a damaging claim were valid.

President Bush acted on a lie which makes what he did, well, A Lie!

That’s just how I see it!

As I stated above, I do love a nice healthy debate so I’m completely open to the opinions of others.  If I find that I’m seeing the situation wrongly, I will admit it - but for now between lie or no lie - I’m sticking with lie - and that Regis IS my final answer.

The way I see it, Bush acted on information that was presented to him by the experts. He has put his faith in that individual. We all do that at some point in time. We are not perfect and we do make mistakes.

Had I been the president and you and you had told me that there were weapons of mass destruction and I had acted based on that information and then found out later that you were misinformed then I would have fired your ass.

So no, I don’t see how that is a lie and the fact that you misinformed me doesn’t mean that you lied (in that scenario) it just means that you suck at your job. lol

      Watch Frontline: Bush’s War

It goes into great detail about the way Bush/Chaney/Rumsfeld kept telling the CIA to look for a connection between Iraq and Al Queda…the CIA and other sources they went to repeatedly kept telling them - no, we can’t find anything. The story is pretty much the same with the weapons of mass destruction theory.. So eventually, they decided to form their own little investigations/intelligent team with in the pentagon and guess what?! …they decided there was a real threat there! Hmm.. Meanwhile, Rumsfeld did everything he could to circumvent Condi Rice’s position and to make sure the president heard very little opposing arguments for bypassing the UN and for going to war.. Be sure and listen to the part where Rumsfeld screws up Colen Powell’s informative meeting with Bush. Also (for those of you who are always screaming “War on Terror”) be sure and listen to the part where we started pulling our valuable special forces out of Afganistan before the job was done to high tail it to Iraq..

I have to wonder if Bush really knew they were trumping up the whole deal..BUT, if you align yourself with evil men, and if you go along with these evil men in politics and ruling the United States of America - you are by association and by deed EVIL..

    Got something to say?
