The Wonders of Honey

Before the introduction of antibiotics in the 1940s you could find honey in the doctors’ bags.Honey was used for just about everything from coughs caused by colds, to allergies. Doctors are bringing it back when other medicines have failed to cure skin wounds.

Honey contains three ingredients that are ideal for treating wounds. One is a high sugar content, it will absorb most of the moisture in the wounds, this makes it hard for bacteria to survive.Hydrogen peroxide is also found in large amounts in your honey jar, the same as you find in most medicine cabinets. Honey also contains a compound call propolis, this compound kills Bacteria.

In a laboratory study honey was smeared on seven types of bacteria that cause infection, all seven types were effectively killed.

      That’s very interesting. I’ve always heard not to give honey to a small baby - do you happen to know why? Does it have something to do w/ these ingredients?
