Closed Minded Voters & Their Misguided Voting Habits

Published by Gayla at 12:52 pm under Politics

I continually find myself puzzled by the platforms of both Democrats and Republicans – I’m further amazed at the number of people who cast their votes based entirely on a politicians stance on abortion.

To me, that is voting for a persons public opinion and not their abilities to lead a country.

When I say “public opinion” I mean the one they sing while providing lip service to their followers and the coveted evangelical vote.  I’ve always felt the topic of abortion is a platform that is utilized far too much by both parties and because of it’s value to each, it’s not something we will ever see changed.

The alternative would mean going back to a time when women were seeking pregnancy termination in dark allies and through unsafe methods that not only resulted in termination of the pregnancy, but in serious and sometimes fatal complications to the mother.

I believe both parties would rather continue use of these platforms while keeping the “choice” on the safer and more controlled side.

I’m sick of hearing the news focus on Sarah Palin’s position on sex education.  Obviously her methods didn’t work in prevention and protection within her own family – but that has absolutely NO bearing on whether she is a viable and capable candidate at all.  I actually like Sarah Palin with the exception of her stance on abortion.  She’s against abortion in the cases of incest and rape.  However, her position and belief is not a factor in whether or not I would support her in office – because I know what I know, pro choice will always remain protected by the law.

Republicans don’t want that overturned because those who vote on that position alone are too large in numbers and without those voters, I believe the Republican reign would be jeopardized tremendously, especially given the fact that this country has grown far more poor over the last 8 years.

Those who believe our government will eventually reach a place where they have nothing better to do than fight the laws protecting choice, while certainly hopeful, I believe those voters are sorely misguided and are wasting their votes.

Consider healthcare – the economy – jobs – immigration and securing our borders.  Battling a woman’s right to choose while currently safe in doing so would certainly fall well and far behind the more pressing issues.

Morals such as this should begin at home and not be force fed by our government.

Ask rape and incest victims what it would be like to be refused the choice to abort if they were to become impregnated by their attacker.  Is this something you would honestly want to put your loved one through?  And if so, why?

I don’t know about you, but as a mother – I’d be the first to take my daughter to abort and I’d want to watch the son-of-a-bitch fry.

Everyone knows that a mother’s mental state during pregnancy is pertinent to the well-being of that unborn child.  Whether or not the child is kept or placed for adoption, the 9 months that child is being carried – it’s being hated for what it represents.

Is the crime itself not enough for a woman or girl to live with?  Must they be sentenced to 9 months of purgatory and further victimized?

Albeit, I am not a supporter of later term abortion, but I believe early abortions should be an option for special circumstances, especially when a crime has been committed or when the mother’s life is in danger.

I get irritated when I hear people are going to vote for somebody strictly on their abortion position.

I believe candidates should be looked at all the way around. In other words, what are they about? What are some of the other issues going on today? How are they going to solve this countries problems today?

No more lip service. There’s been enough lip service to last us two life times. If somebody wants to pick one issue to vote on pick the one on taxes. Raising our taxes is what’s going to hurt us.

I don’t think it’s fair to pick on the rich to pay for the poor. We’ve got to get government out of our personal affairs and leave the handouts to churches and charities. At least with them people will actually have to get up, get out the door and go to work.

As a person that’s in the “poorer” tax bracket, I don’t feel like I should have to carry the heavy load that I do to help the rich get wealthier either.

I’m totally for the FAIR TAX. This bullshit of having tax brackets is just that. Bullshit. We should pay taxes on what we purchase and use and not what we work so hard to make.

If a candidate would support the fair tax, they’d have my vote in a heartbeat.

Can you tell me why the poor should pay higher taxes than the rich? Just because they can’t afford all the deduction the wealthy can?

Doesn’t it make sense that a fair tax would answer all these problems?
