Joe the Plumber?
Worth repeating! If you wonder who Joe the Plumber is – or if you’re sick of hearing about him since McCain has abused the phrase more than he ever did Maverick, check this:
You could see how eagerly John McCain brought up “Joe the Plumber” Wednesday night, as an example of how Barack Obama’s tax plan would hurt working people.
McCain said “Joe” was a voter Obama encountered in Ohio this week. He was fretting Obama’s election because after some 20 years working for a business, he was now in a position to buy that business, and didn’t want to pay higher taxes.
But what an absurd example.
As Obama pointed out, his tax plan will equate to a reduction for some 95% of working families, and for any business that makes less than a quarter million dollars a year.
If “Joe” has done well enough to buy a business that’s doing that well, is he really the type of voter we should be worried about? People are losing their jobs. Losing their houses.
Seeing their retirement and college savings evaporate.
McCain made his anecdote worse by trudging out the coded “Obama is a socialist” canard, saying he wanted to “redistribute” Joe’s wealth.
It’s a shame that McCain, once a Republican with real ideas of his own, has sunk to poorly told sob stories.
It’s obvious from the beginning of the debate who’s behind in the polls.
Joe the Plumber isn’t going to have to worry about buying a business after this – he’s going to be ushered RIGHT to retirement.
I wonder if I can get McCain to start talking about Gayla the Blogger instead?

Wow, I can’t believe that anyone would make such an ignorant statement like this. Are your rights as an American determined by income? Or lack of income according to you. Should Joe have stayed at home and lived off of welfare instead of working so hard to give his family a better life? He might have been better off instead of waiting for an Ivy league educated multi-millionaire like Obama to take it away. Wealth redistribution is socialism. And Obama is a sociliast. I am not a big McCain fan but considering that HRC really won the democratic primary you really shoud be worried if he wins. Socialist rarely stop at taking away until they have it all. Look at the bright side. If Obama wins maybe we can all work for Acorn and keep him in office for life. I hope Mickey is a republican.
If believing that the richer you are the more you should help society is socialism, then I guess I’m a socialist. I would prefer to call it philanthropy. Americans need to evolve and see that poverty and lack of a good education is not a Third World problem anymore, and everyone needs to contribute to bettering the country by paying their equal share…relative to what they already have.
I think most Democratics would agree that HRC would be a better candidate, but that’s really not an option at this point.
