Why buy the cow…

Published by admin at 1:45 pm under Coffee Break

Getting back into the single scene in your 40’s is so different than being in the single scene when you’re 20-something.

For generations, parents and concerned friends have been offering up advice that equates/simplifies to “why would he buy the cow if he’s getting the milk for free?”

It’s my personal opinion that the whole “buying the cow” advice is suitable – For HIGH SCHOOL – but not when you reach your 30’s and 40’s. I mean Come On! We all know by that age, everyone has had sex. Right? They’ve likely been married, had kids, divorced and have a pretty solid understanding of who they are and what they want – sexually that is.

I have to wonder why so much pressure is placed on women to BE the cow and NOT give the milk for free. Besides that, what does free mean? Should women wait on a ring? Marriage? Living together? Three successful dates? WHAT the hell does FREE mean?

Why is it ok for men to want sex all the time – but women are expected to be responsible creatures and deny their own wants and needs? Is it NOT ok for women to enjoy a nice roll in the hay too? Or does that make them sluts/tramps or less desirable if they are confident in their sexuality?

I’ve seen and heard so much of the same/similar advice lately – since I’m taking this plunge back into the single scene – I find myself wondering if I should really give a rat’s ass about the age old double standard advice or should I just do my own thing i.e. what feels right?

So what is it people? Are men really less likely to make a commitment to a woman he’s having sex with?

Do tell!
