North Korea – Breaking the Law and Paying the Price

Published by admin at 12:09 am under Flippin It

No doubt about it – the sentence that’s been handed down to two journalists who crossed over into North Korean territory illegally is harsh. It’s damn harsh in fact, BUT – the fact remains these ladies broke the law.

If Laura Ling has a serious medical condition and Euna Lee has a small child, they should have thought about that – did a little more journalistic research on the laws and potential punishments of that country before ever putting themselves in the position they are in.

Why is it that so many people feel they are above the law? That perhaps they know the right people who will get them out of trouble when they land in a pile of crap?

I know I’m being harsh – but for crying out loud, the leaders of our country have enough to do without having to run to the assistance of people who either 1. knowingly broke the laws of other countries or 2. were not smart enough to do their homework before running the risk.

And while we’re on the subject – maybe America can take note and develop a much more harsh level of punishment for those who break our laws. Three hot meals, a warm room, clean clothes and cable tv is not my idea of punishment.
