Funny that you mentioned this. I was going to write a post on our solution to this problem.

We are the parents that didn't allow our kids to watch The Incredibles, The Little Mermaid, and other "harmless cartoons" that cause kids to be scared. If they don't know there's something to be scared of, then usually they won't be. This was the case with my daughter . . . until she went to preschool. She was 3 years old and there was this kid in her class that constantly talked about monsters. I was not happy!!!!!! In face, it still irritates me. My daughter suddenly became constantly afraid. No matter how much consoling we did, she was terrified. She ended up in our bed a lot.

A child being in your bed is not good for your sleep. When we have a kid in our bed, my husband and I wake up tired and usually with our backs hurting. I have found a solution to our problem. I have a kindergarten nap mat in our bedroom. If one of our kids comes into our room in the middle of the night, they are welcome to sleep in our room but they have to sleep on the nap mat. It gives them the security they need without them pushing me off of my bed. This solution has worked well for us.
