Home Alone – What age should kids be left alone?

Published by admin at 11:00 am under Parenting

Every Thursday evening, I participate in a class at a local church. The class is important to me as it helps me learn and deal with an issue that’s very near my heart.

On those evenings, I do leave the kids home alone. Granted my kids are 16, but if you’ve ever seen them fight, you’d understand my apprehension. Not for fear of the trips to the ER but more a concern of my personal valuables ending up broken, hidden and gone.

I do have my parents each call to check in once during the 3 hours I’m gone and I make a quick call to check in on my break.

I have seen parents begin leaving their kids home alone as early as eleven and personally feel that is too young, but I’ve never said I am right about everything. Only most ;-)

So tell me, when is it right to leave the kiddos home alone and what rules or guidelines do you have in place for them in your absence?
