Teens Online Habits – Scary Stuff

In a survey conducted by The Intelligence Group, Dateline questioned 500 teenagers across the country, ages 14 to 18, about their computer habits.

When asked if they chat online to people they’ve never met before, an overwhelming majority said “yes,” whether it’s “all the time,” “sometimes,” or “not very often.”

When asked if someone they’ve met online has wanted to meet them in person, 58 percent said “yes.”

And 29 percent said they’ve had a “scary” experience online.

When asked if they talk about personal information on the Internet— things like a name, a picture, an address, a birthday, about half the teens said “yes.”

Perhaps I’m over protective, but my kids aren’t allowed on the computer unless I’m IN THE Room with them!

Through monitoring emails, I found that someone kept contacting my son when he’d asked them not to, I emailed them and told them in NO uncertain terms I’d be turning them over to authorities if they didn’t stop.

I know I can’t be there all the time, I can’t protect them from everything, but while they are at home and are not considered "adults" I will put up the best damn fight I can to insure they reach adulthood unscathed.
