Like Mother, Like Daughter – Bristol Palin to Join Speaker Circuit
Former Vice Presidential candidate and Governor of Alaska Sarah Palin’s daughter is earning her way as a single mom. Bristol Palin, 19, gave birth to her son Tripp just over a year ago. Brstol recently commented that being a single mom is hard, and the financial burden was getting to her.
That sure didn’t last long!
She will be joining the speaking circuit to promote teen abstinence. In a PEOPLE article, she stated, "Girls need to imagine and picture their life with a screaming newborn baby and then think before they have sex," she said. "Think about the consequences."
Bristol is committed to sharing her message with America’s teens.
And she’ll be making between $15,000 and $30,000 to do so.
Do you think she’s the right girl for the job?
My personal thoughts are that she may be sending yet another “glamorized message” to young girls. Have sex, get pregnant, have a baby, make a lot of money telling other teens how hard it is to raise a baby.
Perhaps there should be a summer “nanny camp” that gives young girls a taste of 3 or 4 households with babies in them. A single sampling leaves room for them to believe and say “my baby would be different” but a good sampling of different situations teaches them that screaming babies, late night feedings, messy diaper changes and little social life exist everywhere.
