I MADE A MISTAKE: Since I walked away from the Democrats, voting is a serious business to me. I research each candidate on my ballot and make every effort to meet them. There have been times that I genuinely like a candidate as a person, but for various reasons, I could not vote for them.
Last week, as a State Convention Delegate, I watched presentations by each of the four Indiana Attorney General candidates. At a time when Covid-19, protests, riots, fights, and destruction dominate news cycles, I watched, somehow expecting a beacon of light rather than more of the same.
I listened intently as my choice candidate, whom I admire and call friend, went straight to the mud with excessive, aggressive attacks that I had recently advised against using, especially against a popular candidate and in our current political climate. A candidate that I have no problem with whatsoever! I wanted to find that beacon, so I watched the candidates again. I realize I made a mistake, and my choice was premature. Curtis Hill was and is the standout!
Thanks to a dear friend who asked Curtis to call me, I had a long call with him on Saturday. He NEVER tried to take the conversation dark, no mud, no attacks. We discussed the current political climate and a few topics in Indiana politics and law that are important to me. He was absolutely respectful and professional but comfortable, like a friend!
The fact remains that I must stay true to myself and my convictions first. It's nothing personal; this is business!
Some people wonder how I can support President Trump when he strikes with attacks but then not support the attacker I saw during this “virtual convention” (which I think was a ridiculous idea.) The difference is Trump strikes BACK at attacks; he DOES NOT throw the first punch.
The more I watched the convention, the more I wondered HOW these same people who stood fiercely behind Trump and Kavanaugh justify abandoning Curtis Hill? How? Why?
I may never know, but I do suspect it has a lot to do with Curtis Hill being a black man, a fierce Trump supporter, and defender of law, and without a doubt, the most popular political figure in the state of Indiana, EVER! I'm sure those who are publicly and privately on “Team Never Trump” have a real problem with Hill and will enlist anyone, including other known Trump supporters, to unseat him.
I have ALWAYS believed the ONLY mistake Curtis made was walking into a room and blindly trusting people who want to destroy him. I have SEEN the one *alleged* victim, a state lawmaker, in action, and what happened to Curtis should serve as a stark warning to every conservative male in Indiana. Just sayin'
Now I will cast my ballot as a delegate with a clear conscience for Curtis Hill, knowing I took my time to make the right choice for me and those who trusted me to be their voice, even when it means admitting I was wrong.
