Earlier today I attended a meet-and-greet with Todd Rokita at the Henry County Republican Headquarters in New Castle, Indiana. Todd was running a little late, but when you consider the candidates who work hardest for our votes, cover hundreds of miles a day; and, actually take the time to interact with attendees, I wasn’t put off by the delay. Plus, I was able to text Steve, the campaign field director and know they would arrive soon.
I do love knowing people in the know! Ya know?
The Rokita team was busy setting up for Todd to speak. While they were busy doing their thing, I jotted down a few questions I had saved on my phone in the event I should meet my local candidates.
The questions were then handed to one of the members of the Rokita campaign, one of which took the chair right next to mine. Todd began to speak and the more he touched on various topics, I had this strange sense that he had already reviewed the questions I had written. I looked to the back of the room to the guy who was holding the questions, I looked back to the front where Rokita stood. Those two had not been near each other and there was no way, nor time they could have discussed those questions. In that instant I felt as though what mattered to me, mattered to Todd Rokita.
There were several things that stood out. Here are a few:
H.R.5012 – Creating Real and Useful Middle-Class Benefits and Savings (CRUMBS) Act of 2018
Congressman Todd Rokita introduced the “Creating Real and Useful Middle-Class Benefits and Savings” (CRUMBS) Act to make bonuses received in 2018 tax-free up to $2,500 to help lower and middle-class families. The legislation follows the passage of President Trump's tax reform, which has led to millions of Americans receiving bonuses, pay raises, and increased benefits.
H.R.4526 – Stopping Lawless Actions of Politicians (SLAP) Act of 2017
Congressman Todd Rokita introduced the SLAP Act (H.R. 4526, the Stopping Lawless Actions of Politicians) to hold lawless state and local politicians accountable with criminal penalties for working to obstruct federal immigration enforcement efforts:
Violators of this law could be sentenced to 5 years in federal prison and be fined up to $1 million. This elitist mentality that everyone is not equal under the law must come to an end. These politicians want one set of rules for hard working Americans, but a different set of rules for illegal immigrants, and themselves.
Congressman Rokita opposes amnesty, supports building a wall and securing the border and voted for Kate’s Law to crackdown on sanctuary cities.
The fact that Todd Rokita has been supportive of Donald Trump and his vision since day one, was never on the #NeverTrump movement, supports and signed the pledge of term limits, and has not, nor ever will be a lobbyist tells me everything I need to know about him in politics.
I’ve always felt there aren’t enough words that can replace eye contact, and a handshake.
As long as I can remember, even as a child, I have had a fairly keen intuition when it comes to people. There have been a few candidates, for different offices, I’ve met in person, who caused me serious pause. Because of that pause, I will not vote for them. I truly believe a righteous heart will recognize certain evils in a person simply by meeting, and spending a short amount of time with them. I rely heavily on my gut instinct.
This may sound silly to some, but I believe God provides us signs to let us know we are headed in the right direction or to guide us into the direction we should be going. As an example, I can be in a different room, hear a commercial that sounds EXACTLY like Evan Bayh. I only realize it’s a Luke Messer commercial when I look at the screen. There was a time when I thought I might be able to get behind, and endorse Mike Braun. I actually liked the idea of him being a former Democrat. Things happened, and meeting him never happened. I suspect that was God placing speed bumps in my path. I don’t question why, I just follow the path God places before me.
That said, it is without the slightest hesitation that I fully support and endorse Todd Rokita for Senate. There’s no one else I trust to support and help carry the Trump agenda and there’s no one I trust more to actually beat Mexico Joe Donnelly in the upcoming election.
Here’s to continuing to Make America Great Again and I look forward to supporting upcoming elections to Keep America Great!
