Once Christmas is over and all the decorations are down and stored away for another year, I am ready to skip right into spring. January and February tend to be very gloomy here in Indiana. Working on projects that add fresh color and beauty to my surroundings helps pass time and make the gloomiest of days more bearable – especially for someone like me who suffers with Seasonal Affective Disorder.
I've tried to add live plants here and there, but the fact that I am one of those people who can easily kill a cactus, and happen to live in a home where a very curious cat rules the roost, you can imagine the challenges that might present.
Not Your Grandma’s Silk Flowers
From a very early age, I developed a distaste for silk flowers and plants because they just seemed SO fake! When I would visit either of my grandmothers, I remember her assortment of silk flowers that had a certain dust and plastic aroma that had a way of sticking with you. Anyone over the age of 30 or 40 will know exactly what I am talking about.
My, how times have changed!
Sure, those cheesy silk flowers still exist, but places like Silk Plants Direct have upped the game and offer a wide range of beautiful, realistic and elegant options to choose from.
After our kids moved out and we were left with an empty nest, I decided to convert one of the bedrooms into a beautiful guest room that's filled with antiques and heirlooms that I have collected over the years. I gave it a fresh coat of paint, added a beautiful quilt and throw pillows, but still, something was missing.
When I was approached by Silk Plants Direct with an offer to conduct a review, I visited their website and fell in love with so many of the choices they offered. As soon as I saw IT, I knew exactly what was missing from that room!
When my box of roses arrived, it was obvious Silk Plants Direct had taken very special care to package my order. Each individual rose was secured inside the box to keep the petals and leaves from smashing in transit. Being as OCD as I am, I was VERY impressed with this level of care.
Upon examination of the roses, I noticed the quality of work that obviously went into each piece. The petals don't feel like silk at all, they are much stronger than the cheaper products I have seen.
As good as my intentions were to put together a wonderful arrangement, time just didn't permit. Thankfully, we have a daughter that is very talented and crafty who was more than happy to take on that challenge.
Megan picked up a couple of bunches of silks at the local craft store to bring out the elegance of the roses. The end result is nothing short of breathtaking. I love how she took an old milk can, gave it a quick coat of fresh paint to enhance the beauty of the whole display. I think she did an amazing job!

If you look closely you can see the amazing detail in each individual rose. They truly are the most gorgeous silk flowers I have EVER seen. The best part is, they WILL last forever and they'll never get that cheap plastic, dusty smell that may haunt my own grandchildren some day.
