Way back when I was a new blogger, Liz Strauss used to have Open Mic Night on her blog. There was always a different topic and over time, the event really took off. It was a great way to interact with other bloggers and to develop a stronger sense of community around your blogging efforts.
I miss that sense of community and that kind of interaction. Facebook and Twitter have taken a lot of that away and with the recent changes on Facebook, it’s even more difficult to get a conversation going on pages and groups.
Sometimes, it’s just good to return to what works and works well.
Since my day usually begins around the time most people are going to bed, I decided to offer up Open Mic Day instead.
Here’s how it works:
It’s Like Open Mic Only Different
It’s like any rambling conversation. Don’t try to read it all. Jump in whenever you get here. Just go to the end and start talking. EVERYONE is WELCOME.
The rules are simple — be nice.
There are always first timers and new things to talk about. It’s kind of “Cheers” and “Friends” meets the blogosphere.
The topic of our first Open Mic Day will be:
Where are you from? What is your local area known for? And what do you like most about where you live. And, in your first comment, leave a link to your own blog.
Of course the conversation can and likely will, take on a life of it’s own, but this will at least give us a good start to getting the conversation going.
I look forward to hanging out with you!

Knightstown, Indiana. Our claim to fame is the movie Hoosiers used our local gym as the home court of the Hickory Huskers. I have lived in the area most of my life and I do love the small town feel. Lots of history!
